May is Mental Health Awareness Month banner over three smiling children

Kansas City Public Schools is committed to supporting the mental and emotional well‑being of our students, staff, and families. This month in particular, we acknowledge that mental health is an essential part of learning, growth, and success at every age.

Let’s continue creating school environments where it’s okay to ask for help, be kind to ourselves and others, and remind one another: you are not alone.

Together, we can build a culture of care, connection, and compassion across our district.

Each Friday in May, wear green in support of mental health awareness, and stay tuned for additional MHA Month activities at each school.

How to find mental health resources at your school

1. Visit with your school counselor

Every KCPS school has a counselor who can perform wellness checkups on students and their families, and who can refer students to a trauma-informed clinician.

2. Use your school's student support page

When you visit www.kcpublicschools.org, you can find each school's individual website by clicking "Schools and Departments" on the top right corner of your screen. Find your school, and scroll down until you see six boxes, one of which reads "Student Support."

Six boxes of resources, with the box reading "student support" outlined in yellow

There, you can find links to information on the district's social-emotional supports and contact information for the trauma sensitive team members at each school.
