sankofa bird

The “Sankofa” is a metaphorical symbol used by the Akan people of Ghana, generally depicted as a bird with its head turned backward taking an egg from its back. It expresses the importance of reaching back to knowledge gained in the past and bringing it into the present in order to make positive progress.  What poem or speech inspires you to reflect on your history and helps to provide direction for your successful future?

Faxon elementary

Located in the heart of Kansas City, Faxon Elementary is surrounded by the distinguished Faxon neighborhood and sits just to the southwest of the historic Paseo traffic light.

The original Faxon Elementary, just down the street from the current building, was retired from KCPS and was remodeled to serve as senior housing for our neighbors. The current building, previously a Montessori school, now houses kindergarten through sixth grade students and offers a variety of programs and activities to engage the unique Faxon students.

Thanks to the generosity of our many community partners like Front Porch Alliance, we offer First Lego League Robotics to all students, starting in kindergarten, along with basketball, ultimate Frisbee, KC Ballet, D.A.R.E., Student Council and more.
